چکیده

In the present work, we establish an optimal estimate for the electric potential difference between closely adjacent spherical perfect conductors in n dimensional space (n ≥ 2). This result indicates that electric fields blow up as a pair of spherical perfect conductors approach each other, and provides the lower bound with the optimal blowup rate which was recently established by Bao, Li and Yin. There are two notable advantages in our work: an explicit derivation on the blow-up phenomena and a blowup rate expressed in terms of the radii of conductors. The work is originally motivated by estimate for high stress occurring in stiff fiber-reinforced composites. The practical significance have stimulated several related works by mathematical analysis. Much recently, Bao, Li and Yin accomplished a valuable result in the both fields of theoretical and applied mathematics. Their method employs innovative analytical techniques, and the result is valid for a large class of shapes containing spherical cases and provides the quite surprising blow-up rate. Compared with their way, our work will aid our practical understanding of the blow-up phenomenon. In this respect, our method to employ the point charge technique is familiar enough to easily get the optimal lower bound under the assumption of a pair of spherical conductors. With the simple derivation we are able to understand the blow-up phenomenon easily. Especially in R, our estimate also provides a blow-up rate in terms of the radii of conductors, which is unable to be described with Bao, Li and Yin’s result. Our blow-up rate in terms of radii plays an important role in an understanding of the relation between the blow-up and geometric properties, and surely has a significant meaning in the study on the blow-up. Blow-up of Electric Eields between Closely Spaced Spherical Perfect Conductors∗

In the present work, we derive that electric fields blow up as a pair of spherical perfect conductors approach each other, and calculate the blow-up rate by a simple method. In the case of two dimensional space, referring to an anti-plane shear model, we can assume that the conductors and the electric fields represent the cross-sections of parallel stiff fibers and the stresses, respectively. Estimates for Electric Fields Blown Up between Closely Adjacent Conductors with Arbitrary Shape

It may be well known in practice that high stress concentrations occur in fiberreinforced composites. There have been several works by analysis to estimate for the stresses between closed spaced fibers. However, the known results on stiff fibers have until now been restricted to the particular case of circular cross-sections. Thus, we extend the blow-up results on the stresses specialized only ...

Characterization of the Electric Field Concentration between Two Adjacent Spherical Perfect Conductors

When two perfectly conducting inclusions are located closely to each other, the electric field concentrates in a narrow region in between two inclusions, and becomes arbitrarily large as the distance between two inclusions tends to zero. The purpose of this paper is to derive an asymptotic formula of the concentration which completely characterizes the singular behavior of the electric field, w...

Electromagnetic Fields inside a Perfect Conductor

1 Problem Show that the electric field vanishes inside a perfect conductor according to " all " definitions of this concept, while the interior magnetic field vanishes only under some definitions. This problem depends on the concept of a conductor, and of a perfect conductor. The phenomenon of conduction of electricity may have been first reported by Gray in 1731 [1], who described experiments ...

Blow-up of Solutions to a p-Laplace Equation

Consider two perfectly conducting spheres in a homogeneous medium where the current-electric field relation is the power law. Electric field E blows up in the L∞-norm as δ, the distance between the conductors, tends to zero. We give here a concise rigorous justification of the rate of this blow-up in terms of δ. If the current-electric field relation is linear, see similar results obtained earl...
